Building on the preliminary coral research on Delta's Micro CT technology, our goal is to partner with a molecular biology lab to jointly develop application software for calculating coral's bone mineral density. This collaborative effort aims to establish the world's first comprehensive database of coral calcium carbonate skeletons.
As Micro-CT can directly scan live corals without destruction, it provides valuable sample data without sacrificing the coral's vitality. Traditional coral species identification processes will be expedited by leveraging skeletal information from Micro-CT, resulting in more precise identification. After the coral bone database is established, it also helps to collect data for endangered or near-threatened coral species, accelerating coral conservation efforts.
Delta and Mote Aquarium developed a partnership for coral research and rescue mechanisms.
Delta equips these volunteers with the necessary skills to use available tools such as CoralNet, iNaturalist, and CoralWatch to enhance restoration efforts.
The goal is to determine how to optimize the LED lighting to accelerate coral settlement and growth rates.
